GIS Data Distribution and Pricing -
Greensboro does not provide free downloads of GIS data. With the exception
of governmental agencies and other parties exempted by the NC Public Records
Law, GIS data must be purchased.
Greensboro adheres to a strict policy limiting the distribution of information
regarding critical public infrastructure. This includes layers such as water
lines, sewer lines, telecommunication/computer networks and the like. For

Planimetrics (1995, 2000, or 2002) -
Complete Planimetric Coverage available in DXF or ESRI
format $250; includes 1 CD, containing (based on year collected) up
to 17 planimetric layers. Major layers include:
- Building Footprints
- Paved Areas
- Driveways
- Unpaved Areas
- Edge of Pavement
- Water Features
- Railroads
Topographic contour Lines (2000 DTM) -
Citywide contour lines at 2-foot interval available in DWG or ESRI format. $175 (1 CD)
Orthophotos (1995, 2000, or 2002) -
one foot pixel resolution compiled at 1:2400 scale, TIFF format, $250
Other GIS Files
- Variety of GIS layers available in ESRI format on CD. Prices based on $22.50 per half hour for labor assembling the layers. Popular layers include: City Limit Line, City Council Boundaries, Historic Districts, Land use, Parks, State Plane Grid, Zoning and the like. In all, Greensboro maintains over 200 layers of GIS data.
